A New Collective Particle Accelerator.

Abstract

A simple and novel mechanism for a collective particle accelerator is proposed. It is suggested that a density modulated intense relativistic electron beam propagating in a spatially modulated magnetic field can drag particles (electrons or ions) and accelerate them to high energies. This new mechanism can generate high particle current. A strong radial electric field exists in the mechanism ensuring radial confinement of the accelerated ions. (Author)
