Arson: A Dilemma for the Criminal Justice System.

Abstract

This paper examines the reasons why arson investigation is a problem within the criminal justice system. This study looks at why arson is a neglected crime; trends in rates of arson increase and the inadequacies of published statistics are discussed; current thinking and practices concerning arson investigation are presented; how the problem of arson is addressed in three Texas communities is viewed; and recommendations toward an organizational model are presented.
