Nickel Boron Coatings.

Abstract

Preliminary evaluation of nickel/boron alloys from commercially available electroless plating solutions has indicated potential applications of these materials as a replacement for gold in certain applications and as an additive metallurgy for printed circuit boards. Some of these alloys exhibit more than adequate solderability, abrasion and corrosion resistance coupled with acceptable formability. Analytical methods for analysis of the boron content were developed. One of the commercial processes appears to posses excellent reproducibility. Diffraction studies indicate a highly stressed deposit whose epitaxial tendency can be modified by heat-treatment. (Author)
