Field Test of Building Energy Analysis Tools and Procedures.

Abstract

This report describes the results of the field test of three building energy analysis tools: (1) the Building Loads Analysis and System Thermodynamics (BLAST) program, (2) Predicting the Performance of Solar Energy Systems, and (3) Use of the Building Loads Analysis and System Thermodynamics Program to Perform Total Energy System Analysis. Projects to which BLAST was applied included a flight simulator training facility, administrative buildings, and a hangar-administration building. Results showed that these tools can be effectively and usefully applied to the analysis and design of energy-conservative buildings. However, extensive revision of the draft BLAST User's Manual was recommended. The recommended revisions were accomplished prior to the publication of the User's Manual in December 1977. Widespread dissemination and use of these energy analysis tools is recommended.
