Seven Man Life Raft Leeway Study.

Abstract

Leeway angle is the angle between the direction toward which the wind is blowing and the relative drift, due to the wind, of a drift object embedded in the water surface. Leeway factors is the ratio between the drift object's speed relative to the water and the wind speed. An analysis was made of several hundred observations of leeway angle, leeway factor, and wind speed for a seven man life raft attached to a sea anchor. (Author)
