Modified Maximum Entropy Spectral Analysis of Bandlimited Signals in Lowpass Noise.

Abstract

The mean properties of the modified maximum entropy method (MEM) spectral estimator incorporating variable delay are developed for the case of a bandlimited (BL) complex signal in lowpass noise. Asymptotic cases of long filter length and degeneration to the white noise case are examined in detail. The modified MEM is shown to reproduce the input spectrum (to within a scaling factor) for delta = 1 and to provide a spectral whitening function as delta grows very large. Additionally, examples of spectral distortion for delta greater than unity are shown and qualitatively explained. (Author)
