Experiments in Small Craft Leeway.

Abstract

This report describes a series of experiments by the Coast Guard Oceanographic Unit in the study of small craft leeway. The report tabulates the data collected during the experiments and reports on a preliminary analysis of the relationship between small craft leeway speed and wind speed. This preliminary analysis indicates that leeway of boats less than 30 feet in length is about 6% of the wind speed at 20 to 30 knots wind speed. (Author)
