Use of the Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Tester (JFTOT) for Predicting Diesel Fuel Performance.

Abstract

An investigation was conducted to define the feasibility for using the Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Tester (JFTOT) as a laboratory predictor to assess diesel fuel quality relative to operating performance. A methodology was subsequently established to define diesel fuel performance relative to filter pressure differentials at limiting operating temperatures. A variety of diesel fuels and candidate additives were screened using this approach. The modified JFTOT did effectively screen and discriminate between the fuels as a result of their composition, hydrocarbon quality, and possible contaminants. (Author)
