Physical Oceanography Program.

Abstract

This report includes a brief descriptoin of (1) the status of research for each of eleven different areas of physical oceanography; (2) each of the seven multi-investigator, multi-institutional, and multi-disciplinary projects which ONR 481 jointly sponsors; (3) each of the 99 individual projects which ONR 481 sponsors; and (4) all referred journal articles appearing during 1976-78. The objective of the Physical Oceanography Program is to improve understanding of those of those open-ocean physical processes which are of fundamental scientific importance and which impact on present or potential Naval operations. It is a mission-oriented program, and it assumes that such an improved understanding will better enable the Navy to use the ocean environment to its own advantage.
