Study of Stress Induced Free Radicals in Nylon 6 Fibers Using High Speed Fracture and ESR Techniques.

Abstract

A description of a high speed hydraulic stress/strain analyzer and rapid field scan system designed for ESR studies of fracture is given. Results of experiments on nylon 6 fiber bundles show chemical interaction between mechanoradicals and picric acid. Observations of broad anomalous low level signals from some samples is reported. Experiments on completely fractured fibers indicate that the observed time dependence of the spectrum is due to fiber realignment. (Author)
