A Versatile Shock Tube and Its Analytical Instrumentation.

Abstract

A fully instrumented, hydraulically operated shock tube of 6.3 cm bore, in which chemical reactions can be studied at reflected shock pressures of up to 5 MPa, is described. Apparatus for the detection and concentration measurement of species not detectable by conventional ultraviolet and visible spectroscopy has been developed. Systems for these methods of dye laser intracavity quenching, dye laser excited Raman spectroscopy and quadrupole mass spectrometry are described. (Author)
