Translation and Impingement of Furniture Debris in a Model Apartment House Shelter.

Abstract

Experimental results are presented from the air blast loading of a 1/30th scale model of a five-story apartment house shelter. Pressure-time histories of wall loading and interior room pressures are shown for several locations. High speed photographs document the motion of room objects under the influence of shock wave induced internal flows. Calculations of model object translational and rotational velocities are given with the application to a full size apartment house shelter. (Author)
