Development of Vault Toilet Waste Treatment Systems.

Abstract

This interim report describes the study, design, and installation of systems for the in-situ treatment of vault toilet (latrine) wastes. The study investigates properties of vault waste and various waste treatment alternatives. It then selects the most practical alternatives for design and construction. The report then describes design considerations and gives two general overviews of the final designs. The treatment systems consist of one mechanical mixer and two compressor-driven bubble aerators, all of which are installed in concrete lined vaults at Fort Polk, LA. Finally, it details the future testing programs for these devices. (Author)
