A Survey of the Ambient Motion Environment in the Southwestern United States.

Abstract

An examination of published ambient motion data peculiar to the American Southwest is presented. Areas considered are within the Basin and Range physiographic province, namely Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. Ground intensity level determinations, formatted as displacement and acceleration, are compared with continental and world-wide averages. A characterization of the physical and theoretical nature of microseismic activity is included. (Author)
