Soviet Armored Doctrine.

Abstract

This thesis addresses the evolution, development and current employment of Soviet armored doctrine. In addition to a detailed discussion of this major topic it also discusses other related areas necessary for a full understanding of this doctrine. It discusses the development and characteristics of all major Soviet armored vehicles in detail; it looks at both the evolution and logic of current Ground Forces and tank unit organization and their relation to doctrine; it addresses the strength and weaknesses of the Soviet soldier as well as conscription and recruitment of personnel; it looks in depth at schools and at the training policy of tank organizations and its strengths and weaknesses. It finally discusses the inter-relation of all of these areas with one another as well as possible future trends which may evolve based on the historical evolution and current employment of Soviet armored doctrine.
