Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing for Extrusion of Aluminum, Titanium and Steel Structural Parts. Phase II. Application to Practical Extrusions. Volume I. Description of CAD/CAM Systems for Extrusion of Structural Shapes.

Abstract

The overall objective of this program was to develop practical computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) techniques for extrusion of aluminum alloys, steels, and titanium alloys. This program was conducted in two phases. This report covers the Phase-II work, which was completed by performing the following major tasks: (a) assemble geometric modules to represent practical extrusion shapes, (b) apply the CAD/CAM method to a streamlined die, (c) develop a CAD/CAM system for non-lubricated extrusion through flat-face dies, (d) conduct extrusion trials and evaluate CAD/CAM extrusion. In order to enhance readability, the results of Phase-II work are presented in the form of two volumes. Volume I includes the following chapters: (1) CAD/CAM of Streamlined Dies for Lubricated Extrusion of 'T' Sections, (2) CAD/CAM of Flat-Face Dies for Nonlubricated Extrusion of Aluminum Structural Shapes, and (3) Extrusion of 'T' Sections of Aluminum, Titanium and Steel using computer-aided techniques. Volume II is the Instruction Manual and describes the content and use of computer programs. (Author)
