Exploratory Development of Nondestructive Evaluation Techniques.

Abstract

In the first part of the contract, work was performed on the frequency-domain analysis of ultrasonic signals and radiographic images derived from the detection of fatigue cracks in multilayer adhesively bonded structures. Fatigue cracks in a single layer and adhesively bonded double layers were detected by use of Fourier-transform analysis of the ultrasonic signals obtained during conventional longitudinal wave inspection of these structures. Parallel efforts to quantify the radiographic inspection procedure were also begun.
