Experimental Research for Advanced Firefighting Simulators.

Abstract

A phase I experimental modeling has been completed as part of NAVTRAEQUIPCEN task 7794, Advanced Firefighting Simulators. This consisted of application of a previously proposed synthetic technique to represent Class A, B and C Navy training fires by utilizing sensors and logic control for nonprogrammed extinguishment of clean burning gas burners. The basic approach is described involving assembled experimental configurations of bilge oil, oil spray and electrical fire simulators with consideration of various extinguishment agents, oil fog smoke implementation and oxygen breathing apparatus (OBA) simulation. Experimental test results, cost reduction advantages and limitations of the phase I task are discussed along with recommendations for implementation and evaluation. (Author)
