Comprehension of Time-Compressed Speech as a Function of Training

Abstract

This experiment studied five training methods for effective listening of time-compressed speech. Army subjects trained by two methods using incentives understood speech played 2.2 times faster than normal without degradation of performance. Subjects trained by three methods not using incentives had significantly degraded performance when compressed speech was presented at rates faster than 1.85 times the normal rate.
