Radiation Induced Dielectric Relaxation in Rare-Earth Doped Calcium Fluoride.

Abstract

Low frequency dielectric properties of rare-earth doped calcium fluoride crystals were studied over a temperature range of 5.5 K to 380 K. Low flux neutron radiation was found to have no effect. Gammarays, on the other hand, were found to significantly effect these properties. Experiment, in details, is discussed in the paper. The results support the hypothesis that R sub 1 is from isolated dipoles, R sub 2 is from simple clusters, and R sub 3, R sub 4 and R sub 5 are from more complex clusters. The possible use of dielectrics in dosimetry also is discussed. (Author)
