Performance of Hot Fuel in a Single Tube Heat Exchanger Test Rig

Abstract

A single tube heat exchanger test rig was utilized to establish the effects of fuel heating upon fuel degradation. Fuel degradation effects were determined by weighing fuel deposits within the heat exchanger tube and measuring the change in heat exchanger effectiveness ratio. Fuels of varying thermal oxidative stability characteristics were tested and a relationship was developed between those characteristics and the performance of the fuels in the heat exchanger rig.
