Heats of Formation of Gaseous Metallic Hallides.

Abstract

The heats of formation for the silane chlorides and fluorides SiHCl3(g), SiH2Cl2(g), SiH3Cl(g), SiHF3(g), SiH2F2(g) and SiH3F(g) were determined from high temperature thermochemical reactions of SiCl4(g) with H2, SiHCl3 with H2 and SiF4(g) with H2. Ion intensities for the species involved in the reactions were obtained mass spectrometrically, leading to equilibrium constants and reaction enthalpies. The heats of formation were obtained by both second and third law methods and found to be in good agreement. (Author)
