Fastener Recess Evaluation

Abstract

This report presents the results of a series of tests performed to establish the strengths and weaknesses of various recesses used in fasteners. Effects of torque, end load, paint, removal angle, hardness of bit, wear of bit, size of bit and damage to recess were studied. Data was taken both under ideal conditions in the laboratory and at various Air Force Bases around the country.
