An Analysis of the Usefulness of the Graduate Logistics Program as Perceived by Alumni and their Supervisors.
Abstract
The primary objective of this research was to determine the extent to which the graduates of the AFIT/LSG program are using their graduate logistics education in present assignments. In order to effectively accomplish this objective, past AFIT/LSG graduates and their immediate supervisors were queried as to their perceptions of the usefulness of the graduates' logistics education. Data for this research was obtained by mailing survey questionnaires to 300 past AFIT/LSG graduates and an equal number of their immediate supervisors. The questionnaire consisted of fifty-two multiple choice questions divided into two general categories: (1) demographic questions, e.g., rank and command, and (2) attitude measurement questions, e.g., usefulness of skills taught and appropriateness of job placement. In addition, three open-end questions were included to allow respondents freedom of expression. The responses of the graduates and their supervisors were analyzed using various statistical techniques in order to identify the aggregate attitudes of the two populations, graduates and supervisors. Subsequently, the results were compared in an attempt to isolate any differences of opinion between the two groups. Final analysis was to answer the basic questions: Is the graduate logistics education useful, and, if doubtful, what are some possible reasons. (Author)
