Temperature Dependence of Acoustic Emission in an Austenitic Stainless Steel.
Abstract
Temperature dependence of acoustic emission accompanying the plastic deformation of AISI Type 304L austenitic stainless steel was investigated over the range of 300 to 950 K. While the yield and flow stresses decreased, the intensity of acoustic emission increased remarkably by increasing test temperature. The observed behavior was attributed to the transition in the mode of dislocation glide from planar to non-planar, which resulted in a higher instantaneous plastic strain increment. Other implications were also discussed. (Author)
