A Feasibility Study on the Use of Lidar in the Determination of Optical Properties under Battlefield Conditions.

Abstract

A feasibility study on the use of Lidar in the determination of optical properties under battlefield conditions was undertaken. The study was divided into two main topics, i.e., (1) design an experiment to characterize the optical properties of particulates typical of those encountered under battlefield conditions, (2) determine the parameters of the Lidar or Lidars and auxiliary equipment necessary to determine the particulate optical characteristics. It is concluded that if a single wavelength system is to be employed, the 10.6 micrometers CO2 system is the most promising. (Author)
