Residual Strength of a Cracked Lug.

Abstract

Using the finite element method in conjunction with fracture mechanics concepts theoretical calculations have been made of the residual strength of a pin-loaded lug containing a 'through-the-thickness' crack. The results are compared with some previously published experimental results for lugs containing 'quadrant cracks', although there are difficulties in establishing a proper basis for this comparison.
