A Method for Determining the Probability of Vehicle Overturn in Nuclear Engagements

Abstract

Vehicular overturn can be a significant factor in a tactical nuclear battlefield by restricting mobility or firepower at crucial times. A method for calculating overturn relates the probability of overturn to easily calculated blast parameters. Tables permit computation of overturn probability for several U.S. tracked vehicles, the Russian ZSU, and a U.S. truck with communication shelter. The method can be extended to compute overturn probabilities for arrays of vehicles used in small tactical units. (Author)
