Acquisition Planning for Tactical Avionics Systems.

Abstract

This thesis examines the use of microcomputer technology in tactical avionics systems and its impact on the procurement process of associated hardware and software. The rapid expansion of implementation of large scale integrated circuits in avionics systems aboard tactical military aircraft and missile systems has resulted in some serious potential problems in the areas of development, maintenance and acquisition of microprocessor-based systems and software. These problems are identified and discussed, and proposed recommendations are made to lessen their undesirable long-range effects. (Author)
