Calculated Electric Near Fields of Navy Shipboard HF Antennas, Electric Near Fields of Trussed-Whip, Twin-Whip, Discone-Cage, and Bottom-Fed Fan Antennas

Abstract

This report presents the electric near fields of the trussed-whip, twin-whip, discone-cage, and bottom-fed fan shipboard hf antennas. It also discusses the importance of the electric near fields of hf transmitting antennas to the Navy; the analytic approach used; the near field characteristics of hf antennas on an extended ground plane; and the near field characteristics of hf antennas in a structured environment. The final section develops a near field extrapolation algorithm with which the calculated near fields for antennas on an extended ground plane can be used to predict a bound on the near fields that will occur in a shipboard environment for these hf transmitting antennas.
