Electronic Structure of Transition Metal Compounds.

Abstract

The initial effort was to seek the origin of crystal structure determination by studies of terms in the energy of higher order than second in the pseudopotential. This study suggested the determining role of d-states and therefore led to studies of transition metals and, in the final year, to a concentration on transition-metal compounds. This report discusses the evolution and the problems addressed. The final section describes the principal findings, each topic being summarized by a paragraph on the status of that problem. The completed parts of the program have been published in the series of papers listed in the report.
