Third Interim Technical Report on USAFA Solar Test House Design Parameters.

Abstract

This report describes the continuing performance of the first retrofit-constructed, solar-heated facility in the USAF, the Solar Test House at the USAF Academy. Continued efforts to improve the performance have been a further reduction of the storage tank volume and installation of make-up water system to work in conjunction with the bleedl air valves. The thermography studies started during the previous research period were completed and the techniques of using this advanced procedure for displaying flow patterns validated. The data analysis for the Solar Test House shows the improvement to the efficiency of the total system's ability to supply the thermal energy to the structure. Finally, the various parameters used to design the solar energy systems originally are analyzed and shown to be valid for this application. (Author)
