Evaluation of the Singer Night Visual System Computer-Generated Image Display Attached to the UH-1 Flight Simulator

Abstract

This report documents a 4-month evaluation of the Singer Computer- Generated Image, Night Visual System Independent Research and Development (IR and D) Display, attached to the UH-1 Flight Simulator. An instructor pilot evaluation of the system rated it acceptable for further tests, and a transfer of training study was run with Initial Entry Rotary Wing (IERW) students as subjects. Five night maneuvers were taught in the simulator and transferred to the helicopter. Trials to criterion and instructor ratings of performance were compared for experimental and control groups. No transfer effect was observed. Problems incurred in device integration and test management are discussed and recommendations are made for alterations for further tests.
