Defending NATO-Europe. Forward Defense and Nuclear Strategy.

Abstract

This study assesses the roles of nuclear posture and doctrine in relation to forward defense of NATO-Europe, examining the necessity for this forward defense in detail. The current issue of a 'surprise attack' on NATO-center is discussed, and the report also examines what is known concerning Soviet posture and doctrine vis a vis Central Europe, including theater nuclear options.
