A Purely Chemical HBr Laser,

Abstract

Purely chemical laser action in HBr has been achieved for the first time. Chlorine atoms produced by the reaction of NO with ClO2 were reacted with molecular bromine to form bromine atoms which in turn reacted with HI to form vibrationally excited HBr. Multiline HBr laser output of 0.58 W originated from the P(1 to 0)(4), P(1 to 0)(5) and P(1 to 0)(6) lines of the v=1 to 0 vibrational band. (Author)
