The Aerodynamic and Thermodynamic Characteristics of Fountains and Some Far Field Temperature Distributions.

Abstract

This document addresses the flow fields about and below a multi-nozzle VTOL vehicle hovering in the presence of ground. Three specific topics are covered: far field temperature distributions, and the thermodynamic and aerodynamic characteristics of the fountain segment of the near field. An extensive amount of test data was obtained in all three areas, and analyzed in order to model the key aspects of this flow field, and to permit the development of methodology for the prediction of fountain induced forces and flow field temperature distributions.
