Requirements for Improved Infrared Prediction Capability. HAES Report Number 78.

Abstract

This report describes work performed to determine the major uncertainties involved in the prediction of infrared radiation in the 2- to 5-micrometers region following atmospheric nuclear bursts. Emphasis is placed on wavelength bands near 2.8 and 4.3 micrometers. Specifically included for consideration are the molecular species NO, CO2, CO, OH, HO2, H2O, H2O2, HNO2, HNO3, N14N15, NO(+), and N2O. A priority listing is provided of recommended research items necessary for improvement of our prediction capability. (Author)
