NOSC Wideband VHF Whip Antenna

Abstract

This document presents an account of the development of a wideband vhf whip antenna 6 feet long and having a base mount compatible with AS-1729 antennas. Integrated compensation in the antenna radiating element provides a 3:1 or better standing wave ratio over most of the 30-76 MHz band. A dozen prototype antennas were delivered for field testing. In preliminary field tests, the performance of the new vhf antenna equaled or exceeded that of the AS-1729 and RC-292 antennas. Tests are continuing at Camp Pendleton, CA.
