Incorporation of the NAG-FRAG Model for Ductile and Brittle Fracture into Help, a 2D Multimaterial Eulerian Program

Abstract

The method of incorporating the NAG-FRAG failure models for ductile and brittle materials into the Eulerian HELP code and the associated modifications to the code are described in this report. Results from three HELP calculations employing either the ductile or brittle failure model are presented and compared with results obtained from Lagrangian codes which also employed the NAG-FRAG models. Several auxiliary improvements to HELP, including the incorporation of the alpha-epsilon phase change in the iron equation of state, are described and documented.
