On the Stress Analysis of Patched Cracks.

Abstract

A finite element method for analysing the behaviour of cracks in metal sheets, which are patched with an overlay of composite material, is described. The analysis includes the separate responses of the sheet, composite patch and the adhesive. Debonding of the adhesive is permitted and the stress intensity factor at the crack tip is obtained as well as the stress distribution in the patch. (Author)
