Methodology for Ceramic Life Prediction and Related Proof Testing.

Abstract

This program consists of a basic study using two potential high temperature ceramic materials, namely, hot pressed silicon nitride NC132 (Norton) and hot pressed silicon nitride made with 3.5 wt. percent MgO (Ford material) to determine the statistical and time dependent strength characteristics related to the presence of subcritical crack growth. The data will be used to correlate analytical ceramic life prediction and possibly verify with experimental results obtained from simple tensile stress rupture tests. (Author)
