ASpects of Optimal Design in Dynamic Systems.

Abstract

This paper attempts to provide an introduction for statisticians to the version of optimal experimental design theory for parameter estimation in regression models that is appropriate to dynamic systems. The paper consists of three main parts: first, a glossary of some erminology in control engineering and an introduction to the main aspects of dynamic systems; second, a summary of the principal results and patterns in optimal experimental design theory; and third, the ways in which the latter carry over to dynamic models. These application are split roughly into those in which sampling items are selected. (Author)
