Scattering of Solar Radiation by Clouds.

Abstract

Several simple models for computing the diffuse reflectance of solar radiation from plane-parallel cloud layers are formulated and assessed for accuracy. None of the models in their simplest form is suitable for application within the constraint of a factor of two accuracy. However, an empirical modification of the single-scattering model yields a procedure for computing the diffuse reflection coefficient with a nominal error of < 50 percent. (Author)
