Beam Optics of the Quadrupole Magnet State Selector.

Abstract

The hydrogen beam optics of the quadrupole magnet state selector designed by RCA for ultimate use in a satellite-borne hydrogen maser has been theoretically analyzed. With the aid of several simplifying assumptions, the polarization of the hydrogen atoms entering the storage bulb has been calculated as a function of the length of the quadrupole state selector.
