User's Manual for CASSANDRA: Cloud Snapshots of Dust Raised Aloft.

Abstract

The computer code, Cloud Snapshots of Dust Raised Aloft (CASSANDRA), was developed to simulate the spatial distribution and concentrations of dust raised aloft by a nuclear cloud. The code utilizes the DELFIC cloud rise description as the basis for a dynamic wafer shape/transport model. Dust concentration for a particular particle size class is calculated directly from the radius of the contributing wafer at the altitude of interest. The outputs of the program are either an array of numbers specifying the values of collective dust density on a gridwork of points in space or a tabulation of dust concentration at specified coordinates and times. As a test case a simulation of the high explosive test Dial Pack was performed. The computed values were within the range of values reported from the cloud sampling. In addition to a general description of the code, a user's guide has been incorporated. Examples have been included of computer generated output along with a complete listing of the CASSANDRA code.
