Feasibility of a Modified Chloramine Process for the Production of UDMH and MMH

Abstract

The feasibility of a chemical process for the production of unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) and monomethylhydrazine (MMH) by a gas phase generation of chloramine followed by its subsequent reaction with an amine solution was investigated by Martin Marietta Corporation under the direction of Air Force Space and Missile Systems Organization/The Aerospace Corporation. This report summarizes the study and analyzes the economics of the process. Information on the optimum operating conditions required for scale up of the unit to a 40 lb/hr pilot plant system was obtained.
