F-18 Composite Structures Data Analysis.

Abstract

The F-18 Hornet is the first Navy aircraft to use composite structural materials extensively. It is the first aircraft to use certain combinations of graphite epoxy lamination techniques. The Navy and the DoD have a special interest in the impact on supportability of this aircraft as a result of the increased use of state-of-the-art advanced materials. A listing of Navy aircraft which use or have used composite materials was developed, the ability of the Navy 3M system to collect and report useful data on composite repairs was analyzed and an F-18 composite structures risk analysis was conducted.
