The Triboluminescence of Zinc Cadmium Sulfide

Abstract

A fuze system utilizing semi-conductor technology and triboluminescence (TL) has been designed and tested. This report presents subsequent efforts to determine the light output of the TL phosphor, Zinc Cadmium Sulfide (ZnCdS) as a function of bonding resin, substrate material (steel and aluminum), phosphor thickness, impact velocity, and temperature. Several bonds were tested and one was selected for future investigation. (Author)
