SCRIBE Introductory User's Manual.

Abstract

This manual is a beginner's manual for the SCRIBE document production system developed in the Computer Science Dept. at Carnegie-Mellon Univ. The reader is expected to have used a timesharing computer, to know how to use a text editor, and to understand the notion of a timesharing file system. No particular computer expertise or knowledge of programming is needed. SCRIBE is still under development. This first edition of the Introductory User's Manual was written for internal use in the Computer Science Dept., and the particular set of formatting commands that have been devised and documented are designed around the sorts of documents that computer scientist produce. Users in non-academic or non-methematical environments will have very little use for the Theorem or Equation features, but may find something else desirable. In time there will be separate editions of the manual. This manual was produced with SCRIBE and printed on the Computer Science Department's Xerox Graphics Printer.
