Rate of Primary Photoproduct Formation for Aqueous Cr(en)3(3+) and Cr(nH sub 3) sub 5C1(2+).

Abstract

Chromium(III) complexes have been the subject of many detailed photochemical and photophysical studies. The work described here has been addressed primarily to the possible resolution of an important uncertainty in the excited state reaction scheme. As shown schematically in Figure 1, absorption of light in the region of the first ligand field band yields a Franck-Condon (that is, vibrationally excited) excited quartet state, Q sub FC.
